Summer doesn’t always mean the doldrums in the writing world. Alice Owens Johnson received third place in the Wergle Flomp Humor Poetry Contest competing against 2,600 other poets. She also placed on a world-class level as an International Merit Award Winner in the Poetry 2012 International Poetry Competition sponsored by the Atlanta Review. Alice's piece "Tears and Flapdoodle" will be coming out in the fall in a textbook about humor and critical thinking, the title as yet undecided.
Alice has been a member of the Great Smokies Writing Program since it began, taking inspiration from teachers who have been part of GSWP faculty in the past, such as Cathy Smith Bowers and Kevin McIlvoy.
